Smart Excel field in Braineet

The Smart Excel field allows users to upload Excel based on a template that can be pre-filled with Braineet data. When users upload their files, the system can automatically populate custom fields based on the data within the file, eliminating the need for manual double-entry.

You can create a new smart excel field by Adding a field with the "Smart Excel" type.

The Smart Excel offers a seamless integration with Excel files into your project management workflow, eliminating the need for manual data entry.

Set up the field

To add a template and define the fields that will populate it for each project, as well as the field that will be filled each time a user uploads an Excel file based on the template, edit the configuration of the custom field and click on the "Edit Bindings" button.

If the field has not been set up yet, you will first need to add the Excel file that you want to use as a template:

Then, you will be able to define the fields that will be used to fill the Excel file for each project or the fields that will be filled by the Excel file each time a user uploads a new version of their project.

For each binding, you must select:

  • Sheet: The selected sheet must match the sheet you want to populate or extract from.
  • Cell: The selected cell must match the sheet that you want to populate or extract.
  • Mode:
    • Fill by: This option enables the Excel file to be filled and personalized on every project by a field.
    • Imported into: This option enables a custom field to be populated with the data from the Excel file when users upload a new version of it.
  • A custom field: This field will be used to fill the Excel file, or the data will be imported into it.

Add or update the Excel file

To upload a new version of the Smart Excel file for this project, click on "Add an Excel file".

Previous versions will still be accessible through the same modal viewer.

Replace the template

To edit and replace the template used in every project, click on the "Edit bindings" button in the configuration modal of the Smart Excel field.

Restore a previous version

Click on the project field that you want to edit, and then hover over the version that you want to restore.

To restore a previous Excel file, click the ... view menu and then select Restore this version at the bottom of the dropdown menu that appears.
